My Review:
After reading Crumpets and Cowpies by Shanna Hatfield, I knew I had found a good historical romance author who did her research. When I noticed that another of her books, Aundy, was available on Kindle Unlimited with the Audible version for only $1.99, I had to get it and my opinion of this author has again been confirmed. I LOVE her books!
Yes, I occasionally want something spicy and wild to read, but when I'm in the mood for something sweet and clean with romantic tingles and a good solid story with well-developed characters and a setting that is factual, I'm going to reach for another Shanna Hatfield novel. She is rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors.
This is one of those mail order bride books and although that whole theme has been done over and over, this one was a bit different. Aundy corresponds with Eric Erickson and agrees to travel from Chicago to Pendleton, Oregon to marry him. He picks her up from the train station, heads to see the preacher, they get hitched and head toward his home. On the way there something spooks the horses and the wagon tips over, crushing Eric, and this new bride suddenly becomes a widow with a ranch and farm to run.
Aundy doesn't turn tail and run back to Chicago. No, she is strong willed and determined to run this ranch at a profit (much to the dismay of some of the farmhands and some of the neighbors). As this city girl digs in her heels and learns everything she can, there are moments of chuckles, but her spirit wins out and she finds a way to make things work. Add in the good looking neighbor, Garrett, and things get all tingly.
There are sweet moments, gut-wrenching sad moments, frightful moments and a HEA. I'm not going to give any spoilers beyond what I have already said. You just need to read this.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet, clean, Christian historical romance.

USA Today Bestselling Author Shanna Hatfield writes character-driven romances with relatable heroes and heroines.
Her historical westerns have been described as “reminiscent of the era captured by Bonanza and The Virginian” while her contemporary works have been called “laugh-out-loud funny, and a little heart-pumping sexy without being explicit in any way.”
Convinced everyone deserves a happy ending, this hopeless romantic is out to make it happen, one story at a time. When she isn’t writing or indulging in chocolate (dark and decadent, please), Shanna hangs out with her husband, lovingly known as Captain Cavedweller.
