My Review:

I am sitting here, taking another sip of my wine and staring at my computer, trying to figure out how Chrys Fey packed so much adventure, suspense and romance into so few pages!  I am generally not a fan of short stories.  There is usually just not enough time to develop the characters and pull the reader into the story.  But Chrys Fey not only managed to blend it all together in a whirlwind (or hurricane), she delivered it as one fascinating read!

If you are looking for a quick read of only around 50 pages or so that will pull you in and not let you even look away long enough to grab your glass of wine (or coffee or whatever), then this is a book you simply cannot pass up.

When her hometown in Florida is evacuated because of rapidly approaching Hurricane Sabrina, Beth has nowhere to go.  So she prepares as well as she can and hopes for the best.  Then she sees a car crash into a tree, the occupant slumped over the steering wheel.  Beth braves the storm to rescue the man and brings him to the safety of her home.  But is she safe from him?  No spoilers.  You have to read to find out.

The heroine, Beth Kennedy, is a kick-ass self-defense instructor.  I hope the other books in this series have female characters like her!  Also, about the writing... Having experienced Hurricane Andrew first hand myself, Chrys Fey's description of the raging storm was right on target and really made me feel like I was right there!

My Rating:

About the Author:

Chrys Fey is the author of the Disaster Crimes Series. When Fey was six years old, she realized she wanted to be a writer by watching her mother pursue publication. At the age of twelve, she started writing her first novel. Fey lives in Florida and is always on the lookout for hurricanes.

~Thrilling and Romantic with Heroines of Steel~

When I was a child, I looked up to strong women – Jo from Little Women, Xena the Warrior Princess, Erin Brockovich, and so many more. I wanted to be just like them, but I was a scrawny thing, shy, and a little nerdy. I felt as far from these strong women as possible. They were lionesses, and I was Dumbo. So when I started to write, it’s no wonder that my first character was my age but was everything I wasn’t. From then on, all of my heroines became what I wish I could be. Beth (from the Disaster Crimes Series) is a kick-ass self-defense instructor. I want to be as physically strong as her. Dani (from 30 Seconds) is smart, sexy, and has a great sense of humor. I want to be as attractive as her.

At the age of fifteen (a day after my birthday), I had spine surgery to correct scoliosis. Now, I have a steel rod screwed into my spine. Years after my surgery, I wrote a personal essay called Woman of Steel. I am a woman of steel, and because all of my characters are tough women, so are they. They are my Heroines of Steel. I can live vicariously through them, and so can my readers.
