My Review:

This book was ten years in the making according to blurbs I read about it. I must say that it was an interesting concept and I kept reading because I really wanted to find out how it ended.

Addie LaRue is a young woman in France in the early 1700's. Life is difficult and she is forced into marrying a man she does not love. In fact, she doesn't even like him. Prior to taking her vows she unwittingly makes a deal with the devil while mistakenly praying to the wrong "gods" after dark. The rest of the book portrays Addie as quite lonely because no one remembers her. Can you imagine meeting new friends and spending the day with them and as soon as you are out of sight for a wee moment, they instantly forget ever meeting you? Be careful what you wish for!

The pact she made with the demon allows Addie to live forever and the story takes us back and forth through time from the 1700's to modern times. It is well written and imaginative. Quite creative, in fact. So creative, that I normally would have given this five wine glasses, but I'm dropping it down to four because the story dragged on quite a bit and I became disengaged on numerous occasions. I perked up when Addie met Henry, but again it started to drag and I couldn't seem to connect with Henry's personality.
