A Promise of Fire (The Kingmaker Chronicles, Book 1) by Amanda Bouchet
From the Back Cover:
KINGDOMS WILL RISE AND FALL FOR HER...
BUT NOT IF SHE CAN HELP IT
Catalia "Cat" Fisa lives disguised as a soothsayer in a traveling circus. She is perfectly content avoiding the danger and destiny the Gods-and her homicidal mother-have saddled her with. That is, until Griffin, an ambitious warlord from the magic-deprived south, fixes her with his steely gaze and upsets her illusion of safety forever.
Griffin knows Cat is the Kingmaker, the woman who divines the truth through lies. He wants her as a powerful weapon for his newly conquered realm-until he realizes he wants her for much more than her magic. Cat fights him at every turn, but Griffin's fairness, loyalty, and smoldering advances make him increasingly hard to resist and leave her wondering if life really does have to be short, and lived alone.
My Review:
Holy cow!
I think I just found one of my new favorite series. This is, by far, one of the best books I've read this year. The world building was phenomenal! The depth and details of the culture, the inclusion of the Olympian gods -- it all bundled together in an awesome and captivating story with non-stop action!
I loved the strength, snarkiness, and humor of the main character. Strong female leads are a huge plus for me and I absolutely loved Cat! The chemistry between the hero and heroine -- holy smokes! Hot! (*fans self*) Even the supporting characters were memorable with their own stories and quirks.
All in all -- I absolutely loved this book!!! It completely sucked me in and I finished it in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. At the same time, I kept glancing at the percentage on the bottom of my Kindle and wishing that the story wouldn't end.
I **highly** recommend this book if you're looking for a well-crafted fantasy romance. Without a doubt, I give this a very strong 5/5.
