The Novel Lady Interviews Author Barbara Goss

We are here today with Amazon bestselling author, Barbara Goss. Barbara has written over 40 Christian/Sweet Romance books, mostly westerns.

Scherry:  Barb, it is so good to have you here with us at The Novel Lady.  Can you tell our readers a bit about you?  Where you live?  Any pets?

Barbara: Thank you for having me.  I was born in Buffalo, New York, and while the rest of my family is scattered all over the country, I’m still here.  I live in a suburb called Cheektowaga. My first four books were published by Fleming Revell and Baker Book House, the rest are all self-published.  Yes, I prefer self-publishing as it’s faster and gives you more freedom.

I live with my husband of 28 years, LeRoy, and a cat named Molly, who needs constant attention, and supervises all my writing. I also have three grown sons, 4 grandsons, and 2 granddaughters.

Scherry:  Looking over your amazing list of books that you’ve written, I must ask you if you have a favorite one or a favorite series?

Barbara: The Shadow Series is by far my favorite. I try to weave a bit of faith and Godliness into all my books—some slightly, and in some at least one character is a Christian who prays when in a dilemma. The Shadow Series is strong Christian. Each has characters that find something from the Bible that changes their lives. Some characters are terrible and do horribly sinful things, but they eventually discover that life isn’t making them happy. They find, with the help of some good characters, the way to a more rewarding life.  The problems facing the characters are similar to those facing people today. It deals with promiscuity, rape, forgiveness, and people who are dishonest. They are all stand-alone reads, but the characters reappear in the books, so it’s best to read them in order.

All my books are sweet, meaning: no sexual scenes, no swearing, and no graphic violence. Of course in westerns we need violence, but none are bloody or describe gore in detail.  Yet, we are able to create steaming romance, loveable and hated characters, with suspense that will keep the reader turning the pages. All books in my series are stand-alone reads.

Scherry:  I see that you are now involved in audible books.  Was that a difficult transition?

Barbara: No, not at all.  I joined a site called ACX.  There it’s easy to upload your book and you can wait for narrators to audition.  If you’re impatient like me, you can also go to an area where you can hear the narrators’ samples and message the ones you’d like to audition for your book.  I have 38 of my books in audio and I love hearing my books read by a talented voice actor.  It’s like a stage play for your ears.  I also run an audiobook group called Audible Hearts, and co-administer a group with my first narrator, Tom Jordan, called Audiobook Lovers.

Scherry:  I understand you are getting ready to release a new book in just a couple of days.  Hope: The Prairie Roses Collection.  Can you tell us a bit about it and how this new series came to be?

Barbara: Caryl McAdoo organized this series as well as designed the covers and set the rules.  Each book in the series will have a wagon train trip involved.  My book is titled “Hope.”  All the books in the series are titled after the heroine and will be released every day starting on May 2nd for Mother’s Day.

May 2: Sadie by Patricia Carroll; May 3, Remi by Caryl McAdoo; May 4, Hope by Barbara Goss; May 5, Grace by Indiana Wake, and May 6 Julia, by Vicki McDonough.

Hope - As a mail order bride, Hope Carlson finds herself married to an outlaw.  After his death, she is left stranded on the Oregon Trail at about the same time as Daniel’s wife dies of cholera.  The wagon train master strongly urges them to join forces and marry. They plan to have the marriage of convenience annulled in Oregon, but a life and death situation reunites them before that happens.

Scherry:  I am really excited to check this one out!  Definitely going on my TBR list!  Any other upcoming books we can look forward to in the months ahead?

Barbara: Yes. I’m also involved in a unique series of books called The Proxy Brides headed by Christine Sterling. Each book is about a Proxy marriage. I wrote A Bride for Nathan, A Bride for Travis, and my June release is: A Bride for Logan. This series has been extremely successful. Readers love Mail-Order Brides and Proxy Brides is similar. Readers love it because of the mystique. Imagine finding yourself married to a complete stranger and trying to get acquainted to make it work.

Scherry:  Barbara, thank you so much for being here with us at The Novel Lady. How can our readers get in touch with you to find out more?
