NEW RELEASE! Book Review - Beneath the Fallen City (Book 1 of The Omni Towers Series) by Jamie A. Waters

Title: Beneath the Fallen City (Book 1 of The Omni Towers Series)
Author: Jamie A. Waters
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Post-Apocalyptic
Release Date: September 6, 2018

About the Book:
In the shadows of the towers, your only hope is to scavenge for the truth...
One hundred and fifty years after the earth was ravaged by war, the two self-sustaining towers built by OmniLab continue to offer a safe haven for those who paid the hefty price to assure their family's survival. But on the surface, there are others who have survived over the years struggling to barter and trade artifacts found within the ruins of the crumbling cities in exchange for critical supplies.
When Kayla, a ruin rat skilled in computer hacking and scavenging, discovers a strange artifact known as The Aurelia Data Cube, she finds herself inadvertently caught up in a series of events that threatens the lives of the mysterious and elusive people within OmniLab.
Carl, an unorthodox trader with a head for business, is determined to eradicate the corruption amongst his OmniLab brethren and has no qualms about using Kayla to do it. Unfortunately, he wasn't counting on the vastness of the corruption or his own feelings for the headstrong woman who turns his life upside down.
Caught between the life she knew and a dangerous world that's claimed her as their own, Kayla learns the fearful truth behind just how far one man will go to obtain power and how far she'll go to survive.
*This book was previously released as The Two Towers but has been significantly revised and modified.

My Review:
If I could give BENEATH THE FALLEN CITY six wine glasses, I would. Once I started reading, I could not put this book down. From the first page, as Kayla crashes through the floor of the building she was exploring, I felt like I was right there with her. The scenes, as described by this author, had me actually feeling like I was right there amongst the dust and debris and ancient artifacts.

Oh! And the characters!  I loved Kayla with her snarky, totally capable, quick tempered, tough-girl image, and yet so fully developed as a character, the reader was able to see the soft, vulnerable side of her as well. And Carl. OMG! Just reading about this guy had my heart thumping in overtime. Then there is Alec. Wow! What more could a gal ask for? Not generally a fan of love triangles, but this one is done so well that I am truly intrigued and can’t wait to read the next two books in this series.

About the story… In this post-apocalyptic world, the elite (or those who were able to afford the price) live in the gleaming white towers built by OmniLab. These people have grown up in a world where life is easy and food and water and other commodities are readily accessible.  Those not able to afford the price of residency are forced to be scavengers on the surface and live in camps where conditions are harsh. Kayla is a ruin rat who has learned to survive by finding items in the ruins that can be sold to the various traders, who in turn sell these items to the people in the Omni Towers. When a strange turn of events puts Kayla in the middle of the Omni Towers corruption, sparks fly.  Be prepared for lots of action and intrigue. Fascinating story line!

Jamie A. Waters is an author to watch. Her ability to create such well-developed characters and pull you into her fascinating world is simply awesome! I understand that Kayla’s story is pretty much complete at the end of Book 3 in this series, but then, because there are so many other wonderful characters, there will be three additional books based in this world about some of the other characters.  I, for one, cannot wait!  I'm excited to know that all three of the books in Kayla's story will be released this month!  And Books 4, 5 & 6 will be released in October and November.  Yay!

My Rating:
