Title:  Unbroken Spirit (Mystic Hope, Book 1)
Author:  Kelsey Norman
Genre:  Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Mountain Brook Ink
Release Date:  August 1, 2016

From the Back Cover:

Nina Anderson is lucky to be alive....

After years of abuse at the hands of her boyfriend, she’s finally free. Determined to get back on her feet, she’s left her past in New York City behind for a fresh start on her grandparents’ farm in Despair, Kansas. Even though, Jeremy, the man Nina thought she loved is in prison fifteen hundred miles away, she’s still haunted by nightmares.

Liam, a mysterious man called a Martyr, appears without warning or explanation. He’s been sent to serve as Nina’s protector and to help her with an event that is to occur in the near future. The catch is, Liam doesn’t know what it is or when it will take place—or that his future and hers will be challenged and changed as a result.

Nina’s annoyed at first that Liam is by her side nearly every minute of the day, but over time her attraction grows for the unearthly man who treats her with the respect she’s always wanted. The scars of her past have made her feel unworthy of love. Does Liam have the power to show Nina she's deserving, and can God restore the faith she once knew that Jeremy nearly destroyed?

My Review:

Okay... this book gave me tingles!  Lots of tingles!  This was the first book I've read by this author, but I doubt it will be my last.  Kelsey Norman did a fantastic job with character development.  Even the minor characters were pulled into my heart.  I wanted to give Grams and Papa a great big hug!

From the first page, I was hooked!  Nina's nightmare, remembering the abuse she endured at the hands of her former boyfriend who slit her throat, was a nightly occurrence.  After what she had endured, she found safety and comfort in the home of her grandparents, but the nightmares persisted until she met Liam, a man who mysteriously appeared and eventually allowed Nina to trust again.  Liam was to be Nina's protector, but he didn't know what he was to protect her from... until one frightful night.  I'm not going to give away spoilers here.  Not knowing what was to happen or when added to the excitement and anticipation as I read.

This is a Christian book.... but not in the sense that a lot of Christian books are written. Instead, the story grasped the concept of returning to God and finding peace within.  This was more of a Paranormal/Fantasy book with a touch of faith instilled in it.... and I loved it!I

I need to comment on a couple of other things.  First of all, I love the cover.  I had to go back to see who did the cover art because I thought it was phenomenal.  Lynnette Bonner did a beautiful job with that.  Also, the editing was good.  Everything about this book fell right into place.  The story flowed, left me intrigued, warmed my heart, made me shed a few tears, made me smile, and gave me tingles!  I will be looking for the next book in this series and any future books by this author.
